Curfew in Bawku reviewed.
The period for the curfew on the Bawku Municipality,
Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga and Zoosi and their environs has
been reviewed from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am to 8:00 pm to 5:00
am with effect from Sunday, March 23.
A statement signed by Mr. Kwamena Bartels, Minister of
the Interior said the decision followed the return of
the Bawku Municipality and its environs to relative
normalcy, and is upon the advice of the Upper East
Regional Security Council (REGSEC).
The change in the curfew hours, therefore, means that
the curfew will now start at 8:00 pm and end at 5:00 am
every day.
The statement said the change in the time was justified
by the marked improvements in the peace and security
situation in Bawku following the very successful meeting
of President J.A. Kufuor with the leadership of the
Kusasis led by the Bawku Naba, the increased security
measures taken by the Security Agencies and the
commitment to peace demonstrated by political leaders
and opinion leaders from the area.
It said; “Government is confident that the prevailing
peace will be consolidated further by the President’s
meeting with the leadership of the Mamprusis on
Wednesday.
The statement said; “Government wishes to remind all
stakeholders that the situation is still volatile, and
therefore, wishes to urge all factions to desist from
doing any thing that will work against the process of
ensuring the restoration of total normalcy in the area.
Government reiterated that the ban on all persons in the
Bawku Municipal Rear, Zabugu and Garu Townships on their
environs from carrying arms, ammunitions or any
offensive weapons still remained in force, and any
